Description

Designed for indoor environments in 2020, Torii Nest migrates to open-air living spaces, in the armchair, lounge and dining little armchairs versions. With structural details linked to Japanese tradition, the seats play with round edged volumes, thin profiles and the apparent formal simplicity of an extremely intricate design.

The varnished tubular steel frame of the backrest is covered in woven cord in the shades Ecru and Dark Brown, sporting a design inspired by Vienna straw, but with a larger mesh.

It sits on a base in natural teak or Dark Brown stained mahogany, supported by varnished aluminium legs with a polished, Bronze-coloured, anti-touch finish. With its backrest in the shape of a perfect circle, and a sophisticated visual lightness that embraces the padded seat, Torii Nest Outdoor was conceived to meet various requirements, in terms of both functionality and ergonomics.

The three types are available in the fixed and swivel without return versions, thanks to a tried and tested mechanism, a novelty for the outdoor environment.

Minotti and Oki Sato, Japanese designer born in 1977, first came into contact in 2017.

Multi-talented, poetic and original, in 2002, Oki Sato opened the architecture and design firm Nendo, of which he is Chief Designer. Internationally renowned for his multi-faceted approach, which spans from graphic design to product design, and from architecture to the creation of installations, Oki Sato officially joined the Minotti team of designers in 2018.

With his light, fresh and minimal style, he creates designs with a big personality and a poetic touch.  He is mainly inspired by the manual work of master craftsmen and artisans, and by the interaction between people, objects and environment.

The creative synergy between Minotti and Oki Sato was expressed in 2018 with the launch of the Tape collection - a family of seats and tables characterized by a light silhouette and a strong identity - and the Ring and Waves coffee tables.

In 2019, the partnership continued, with Tape Cord Outdoor, the outdoor evolution of the award-winning and world-renowned Tape family, the Easel cabinets series and the Wedge table and coffee table.

In 2020, Oki Sato designed the Torii family of seats and furnishing accessories, available for both residential and Hospitality settings: a very detailed project that plays around with the roundness of the volumes, the thinness of the profiles and the apparent formal simplicity, at the same time highlighting the haute couture approach in Minotti’s distinctive sartorial craftsmanship.
