Description
Capri Base is the new edition of the iconic Capri armchair designed by Gordon Guillaumier. The result of a design study based on subtraction, Capri Base appears as a sculptural form emptied inside to create a soft curved shell, made even more comfortable by its goose-down seat cushion. The only concession to geometric rigour is the square Pewter-coloured metal base on which the upholstered volume rests. The side zips on the front of the armchair perform both an aesthetic function of decoration and a practical function, as they make the cover removable: a tailoring detail that contributes to making this furnishing piece a timeless icon. Capri Base can be completed with ottomans from the same family, available in two different sizes.
Structure: In metal coated in flame-resistant polyurethane foam, then encased in quilted breathable, heat-bonded polyester fibre laminated to hypoallergenic white cotton fabric.
Cushions: Seat cushion padding in channelled goose down, undergoes routine sanitization as specified in EC Regulation No. 1069/2009 (Assopiuma certified, Gold Label), with insert in variable-density polyurethane foam.
Covers: Exposed zippers make upholstery easy to remove, in both fabric and leather versions.
Base: Perimeter frame in rectangular metal tube 40x15 mm, varnished polished Pewter colour. Protective felt glides.

Gordon Guillaumier
Gordon Guillaumier is a Maltese designer born in 1966, internationally recognized for his work in product, furniture, interior, and industrial design. After studying in Switzerland and England, he graduated in Industrial Design from IED Milan in 1991 and earned a Masters degree in Industrial Design from Domus Academy the following year. He began his career collaborating with Rodolfo Dordonis studio, contributing to projects for renowned brands including Foscarini, Artemide, and FontanaArte. He later worked alongside Enrico Astori at Driade before establishing his own Milan-based design studio in 2002, specializing in product design, interiors, and creative direction.
Today, Guillaumier serves as Art Director for Desalto and Roda and has designed collections for many of the worlds leading furniture and lighting brands, including Minotti, Moroso, Driade, FontanaArte, Foscarini, Tacchini, Lema, De Sede, Oluce, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, and Bosa. His work is distinguished by its timeless elegance, functionality, and meticulous attention to detail. His designs have earned numerous international accolades, including the Compasso dOro, Wallpaper Design Award, Interzum Award, and multiple Archiproducts Design Awards. In addition to his product design work, Guillaumier is widely respected for his residential interior and architectural projects, which have been featured in leading international design publications. He has also designed exhibition spaces for major events such as the Milan Furniture Fair and Fuorisalone.
